Your Reviews of Disney’s “Beverly Hills Chihuahuas”
“Beverly Hills Chihuahua”, opened on Sept. 26, 2008. Who’s seen it? Are you planning to see it? Some of us in the chihuahua community are afraid the movie will lead to a rash of chihuahua breeding and buying, resulting in unwanted chihuahuas in shelters down the road when people realize that pet ownership is more work than they bargained for. On the other hand, it’s hard to resist a movie filled with cute chihuahuas and the movie does raise the profile of the breed.

Marylynne :
My two babies Bubba and Sophia are actually going to get to be smuggled in and watch the movie themselfs. The manager where I go is going to allow it so we will see how they like it.

This is such a good idea! They have Mommy’s Day Out programs at movie theaters, they could do the same for chihuahua owners with this movie. Think of the publicity it would generate! Let us know how Bubba and Sophie like the movie.

We saw it opening night and really enjoyed it! It was so cute, fun and everyone in the theater was rooting for them and singing to the songs. I was glad to see it grossed the most of the movies that came out this weekend. Chihuahua lovers will love it, others not familiar with the breed may miss some of the chihuahua antics. I was hoping they were going to use the “Chihuahua Dance” song more. I had that song on a latin dance CD, and the song is very catchy, happy and fun. I loved it.

After reading other reviews, I decided not to see this one based on film quality concerns alone. However, I think Cindy raises serious concerns about the likely unintended consequences of showing cute pets without talking about the responsibilities of pet ownership. Heres’ a thoughtful article on this topic:

ok here goes. Bubba slept through most of the movie until I got the popcorn and then he was wide awake. Sophia kept barking and almost got us kicked out. But the people inthe theater thought it funny they were there so the manager let us stay. Overall I think Sophia liked it . She sat on my lap and payed attention. Bubba , after the popcorn was gone went back to sleep. Oh well typical male.
